Pioneira no mercado de arte contemporânea no Brasil, a Galeria Raquel Arnaud construiu sua trajetória com uma forte postura institucional, marcada por parcerias de longo prazo com seus artistas. Para Armory 2023, a galeria propõe um diálogo entre diferentes gerações através do trabalho de cinco artistas. As pinturas, esculturas e trabalhos em papel selecionados abordam questões espaciais, a tradição construtivista e suas ramificações contemporâneas, testando a percepção do espectador e suas crenças cognitivas, oferecendo novas interpretações do espaço, movimento, cor e da própria estrutura da arte.

Serão apresentados um relevo em madeira e uma escultura em mármore dos anos 1970 de Sergio Camargo, além de duas colagens e uma obra tridimensional em metal pintado de Arthur Luiz Piza. Os dois artistas já faleceram e tiveram papel fundamental na trajetória da galeria. Também representaram o Brasil em grandes mostras internacionais como Kassel Documenta e Bienal de Veneza. De geração diferente, Iole de Freitas e Elizabeth Jobim iniciaram suas carreiras nas décadas de 1970 e 1980, respectivamente.

Embora trabalhem com conceitos e materiais diferentes, ambos exploram a espacialidade em suas investigações. De Freitas, serão mostradas duas esculturas, e de Jobim, uma pintura modular. Representando a nova geração, João Trevisan trabalha com a noção de memória, materialidade e impermanência, utilizando diversos suportes e técnicas, com destaque para pinturas sobre tela e madeira. Este projeto destaca 3 gerações diferentes e reforça a coerência do programa da galeria, construído ao longo de 50 anos de existência, unindo passado, presente e futuro.

Pioneer in the contemporary art market in Brazil, Galeria Raquel Arnaud has built its trajectory with a strong institutional approach, defined by long-term partnerships with its artists. For Armory 2023, the gallery proposes a dialogue between different generations through the work of five artists. The selected paintings, sculptures and paper works deal with spatial issues, the Constructivist tradition and its contemporary ramifications, testing the spectator’s perception and his cognitive beliefs, offering new interpretations of space, movement, color and the structure of art itself.

A wood relief and a 1970’s marble sculpture by Sergio Camargo will be shown along with two collages and a painted metal three-dimensional work by Arthur Luiz Piza. Both artists have passed away and had a fundamental role in the gallery’s trajectory. They have also represented Brazil in major international exhibitions such as Kassel Documenta and Venice Biennale. From a different generation, Iole de Freitas and Elizabeth Jobim started their careers in the 1970’s and 1980’s respectively. 

Although they work with different concepts and materials, they both explore spatiality in their investigations. From Freitas, two sculptures will be shown, and from Jobim, a modular painting. Representing the new generation, João Trevisan works with the notion of memory, materiality and impermanence, using various supports and techniques, especially paintings on canvas and wood. This project highlights 3 different generations and reinforces the coherence of the gallery’s program, built over 50 years of existence, uniting past, present and future.
