One of the artist’s references to conceive the Black Series was the Mayan culture, in which black mirrors were used. “The functioning of mirrors is a question that has always intrigued me and is present in all my work. In a black mirror, like those used by the Mayans, areas of high light are highlighted and regions of shadow are less visible, altering our perception. The way in which the Mayans saw themselves reflected, for example, decisively influenced their way of treating sculpture.”
Sculpted in granite, the pieces in the Black Series exhibition address the issue of reflection. Aspects such as the ability to duplicate materials, objects that are larger on the inside than on the outside (such as books and mirrors), the functioning of mirrors, infinity, the echo, and the horizon line, permeate the 5 works that can be seen. for 2 months at Galeria Raquel Arnaud: The Sea, The Mirror, The Machine, The Landscape, and The Sound.
