In Romulo Fialdini’s photographs, taken over the last four decades in large metropolises, like São Paulo, Chicago, New York and Montevidéu, everyday life strips itself of its obvious character and reveals itself as a mystery yet to be unraveled, permeated by suggested geometries, architectures and relationships. Through urban drifts, sometimes casual, sometimes in search of the unexpected, Fialdini highlights the emblematic elements of cities without erasing the conflicts that invariably inhabit them. Working frequently with square format frames, mostly in black and white, Fialdini searches for moments of softer natural light that make it possible to apprehend more complex textures and shadows, creating dialogues between the architecture and the structural lines of the photographs.

Romulo Fialdini initiated his professional career in the beginning of the 1970s, as an assistant for the photographer Luiz Hossaka, at the Museum of Art of São Paulo, where he produced images for catalogs, books and for the archive of documents of Lina Bo Bardi. Since 1975, he has been working as an independent photographer, acting also in the field of publishing and advertising. In addition to being a great exponent of urban and architectural photography, Fialdini is one of the greatest Brazilian specialists in the reproduction and photography of works of art, having contributed to the illustration of numerous catalogs and art books.

Among the individual shows, the highlight is Chicago (1995), at Galeria Fotoptica, in São Paulo. He participated in collective exhibitions since the 1970s, from which stand out the Bienal Nacional (São Paulo, 1976); Quadrienal de Fotografia (São Paulo, 1985); and Miroir Rebelle (Paris and Rio de Janeiro, 1986). In 2003, he integrated the Clube de Colecionadores de Fotografia do Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. His photos are found preserved in the Museum of Art of São Paulo, Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and Museum of Contemporary Art of University of São Paulo. He has been represented by Galeria Raquel Arnaud since 2011.
